What is MDF jumpering?
When you get a new telephone/internet connection, your Telco service provider (Like Telstra, Optus, TPG, Dodo, Internode, iinet etc) will connect their service from the telephone exchange via a street cable to the Main Distribution Frame’s (MDF) ‘A’ side of your apartment complex and owned by the provider. The Main Distribution Frame’s (MDF) ‘B’ side is connected with phone socket of your unit and owned by unit owner/ tenant. So MDF is the point/boundary where the provider owned services end and the house owner/tenant owned services begin. A jumper-wire need to connect between a pair of wires that is carrying your signal on side ‘A’ to side ‘B’ and connected to telephone socket of your unit, is called MDF jumpering. In larger apartment complexes or business building with several floors, there may be other Intermediate Distribution Frames (IDP) and sometimes a Final Distribution Point (FDP) which also need to be jumpered. All these are owner/tenant responsibility.
